Leisure Programme for Home Tuition students

The Home Tuition programme, includes at least two local activities with your teacher each week.


Activities with your teacher at extra cost

These activities are for students who want to add leisure-based activities to their Home Tuition course. The activities are supervised by teachers with interests and backgrounds in the specialist area. Students learn about their hobbies/interests and in conjunction with the benefit of a 1:1 English Home Tuition Course (highly effective learning, full immersion, extra conversation practice, experience British life and culture).

Sightseeing and Excursions
London Museums and Attractions - Visit the national museum of your choice, go on the London Eye or visit other attractions of your choice.
Historic Buildings & Castles - While learning English visit ancient castles and buildings in your chosen area e.g. Leeds Castle, Hever or Windsor.
British Life & Customs - Combine learning English with a focus on manners, etiquette & customs (e.g. having afternoon tea) & visiting cultural sites.
English Country Gardens - Combine learning English with visits to Country Gardens and Houses. Learn about trees, flowers and landscape design.
London Shopping - Learn English and shop in London with your teacher. Visit Harrods, Fortnums, and famous shopping streets and markets.
Shopping - Combine learning English with visiting famous shops in the area with your teacher. Visit local markets and view / buy local goods. Talk about different products.
Afternoon Tea - Combine learning English with visiting a country tea shop for a cream tea. Learn about traditional teas and bake traditional cakes.


Culture
Classical Music Combine learning English with playing music. Attend concerts & recitals with your teacher -
traditional or modern.
Art Combine learning English with painting British village & city scenes or pottery/sculpture. Visit galleries &
museums.
Cinema Combine learning English with visiting the cinema and Planet Hollywood. Learn to talk about films, film
stars and the Oscars.
Rock Music Learn English & attend a rock concert. Visit the Beatles’ Abbey Road. Learn about bands & singers
you like.
British Festival Combine learning English with attending a UK festival such as Edinburgh or Brighton Arts
Festivals.
Theatre Learn English focusing on plays, drama & musicals. Go with your teacher to see a play or musical each
week.
Literature Study a selection of plays, poems & novels. Visit authors’ houses e.g. Jane Austin, Charles Dickens,
William Shakespeare.
Ballet Combine learning English with a focus on ballet. Go to see a ballet with your teacher.


Sports
Rugby Combine learning English with playing or watching rugby. Discuss, read & watch the English game.
Football Combine learning English with playing or watching soccer. Discuss, read & watch the English game.
Golf Combine learning English with 10 hours of golf with your teacher on golf courses, driving ranges or putting
greens.
Tennis Combine learning English with playing tennis three times a week. Have a lesson with a professional coach.


Outdoor Activities
Horse-Riding Learn English & go horse-riding at a stables arranged by your teacher twice a week. Go to the horse races or show jumping events.
Country Walking Learn English & see the beautiful countryside. Walk with your teacher in the hills & villages, along rivers and by the sea.
Hill Walking Combine learning English with hill walking. Walk with your teacher through the hills and experience the beautiful views.
Bird Watching Combine learning English with visits to rivers, sea, nature reserves & countryside to watch for native & migrating birds.


Interests
Fashion Combine learning English with a study of contemporary & historic fashion. Visit a fashion show, if available.
Cookery Combine learning English with cooking traditional English pies, puddings & cakes. Go shopping for traditional ingredients. Visit a restaurant & teashop.
Interior Design Combine learning English with visiting design centres and specialist displays. Learn to talk about style, colour, materials and furniture.
Architecture Combine learning English with visiting famous buildings and talking about architecture. Visit an Architects studio.
Archaeology Combine learning English with visits to archaeological sites and museums. Learn about Stonehenge or Roman Britain.
Antiques Combine learning English with visits to antiques markets & auctions, country houses & historic towns. Learn about antique furniture, silver, ceramics & books.


Crafts & Therapies
Flower Arranging Combine learning English with practising flower arranging (fresh/pressed/dried), visiting flower shows & gardens.
Aromatherapy Learn English & learn about Aromatherapy. Optional consultation/massage.
Calligraphy Combine learning English with practising calligraphy. Visits to local places of interest.
