Becoming international with Regent

Learning a new language opens the door to new, unexpected and life-changing possibilities. As an international language, English gives the opportunity to communicate with people from across the globe in a range of situations. At Regent we help students understand the significance of entering a global world, and prepare them for their internationally focused future.

Our daily Knowledge for a Global Community sessions are at the heart of every Regent course and ask students to explore a range of topics over the course of a week, culminating in a presentation or debate. Our topics are chosen for their global relevance and are inspired by history, sociology, art and culture just to name a few. These sessions encourage individual and team-based research and develop skills in team-working and analysis as well as presenting and public speaking.

Each school regularly holds events on topics often linked to the Knowledge for a Global Community topic, giving students a framework in which to explore and discuss this idea further outside the classroom. Many of our events are linked to UNESCO’s International Days and explore issues of global significance. On the event day we hold special plenaries, hear from guest speakers and invite students to participate in debates or educationally led activities relating to the chosen topic. For information on some of our past events, click here

Our programme of cultural events changes each week and provides students with a chance to explore everything their city has to offer. We choose local events of cultural or educational significance, helping students to understand more about the UK as well as a chance to socialise with staff and other students in a more relaxed and informal setting. Click here for more information about the cultural events and activities for each school.

Confidence is essential to operate successfully in an international arena, and is something that we try to build in every student. We encourage students to engage in public speaking activities regularly, a great way to build confidence and fluency. Our KGC lessons often ask students to present information and we invite students to give plenaries during their time with us, giving each student multiple opportunities to step outside of their comfort zone and build confidence in their ability. Khalid who studies at Regent Oxford is a testament to the effectiveness of this approach. Read his story here.
