The Certificate in Teaching English as a Life Skill (Cert TEALS©) is an initial qualification for English teachers (TEFL) in the UK and overseas. It is validated by Trinity College, London, and provides the qualification required to work in an accredited school in the UK. Successful candidates receive the Certificate in TEALS©, and the Trinity Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CertTESOL). The course, which runs at Regent Cambridge, uses cutting edge teaching and learning methodology centred on helping students to use English to achieve their goals. This 4 week course includes: almost 100 hours of workshop input, discussions and guided study; 14 hours of teaching practice – double that of a normal 4 week course; very small teaching practice groups of just 5 trainees; weekly tutorials.
English language teacher training tends to emphasise the teaching of English as an end in itself. This course focuses on teaching English as a life skill (TEALS©), that is, to develop the ability to function effectively in English in an international world. This involves the ability to communicate convincingly and persuasively in multicultural settings. A proficient TEALS© practitioner focuses on the life objectives of the learner and has the skills, knowledge and confidence to help them to overcome barriers to effective communication and realise their objectives through English.

Accreditation
There are two well known initial teaching training qualifications for TEFL teachers in the UK - Cambridge CELTA and Trinity CertTESOL . Either qualification is considered a minimum requirement for working in an accredited UK language school. Regent Cambridge provides a cutting edge course in which successful students receive both the Trinity CertTESOL and the CertTEALS© certificates.
